Mergin Maps

Subscription tiers are going to change

We are making pricing changes in order to ensure that we can continue to invest in our team to improve our product and provide the best support to our growing and diverse group of users.

What are you changing?

The main changes we’re making are:

  • Making the Individual tier better suited to lone workers. It will now be available at a lower price and will support a single user up to two projects
  • Providing the Professional tier for up to 6 users1
  • Providing the Web Map feature and API access only for the Team tier
  • With a few exceptions, discontinuing the Free tier in favour of a 1-month free trial

For a complete list of all changes, please continue reading below.

Why are you making these changes?

Until now, the main differentiator in our pricing plans has been storage. However, we see that the value users get from Mergin Maps doesn’t depend only on storage.

For example, right now, the Individual plan would be the logical choice for a single user, but also the logical choice for a team of many surveyors who are able to keep their storage requirements low. This means many of our paid subscribers ended up in lower price tiers.

By considering only storage as the metric of value users get from Mergin Maps (as it is now), any price change disproportionately affects lone working Mergin Maps users, especially those in low and middle-income countries who have less spending power.

We feel that moving towards a user-based pricing model (rather than purely storage-based) is a fairer way of charging for the service and that’s why we’re making the Individual plan best suited to, well, individuals!  This will also be reflected in its lower price.

The Professional and Team tiers will also now be better suited to smaller and larger teams of collaborators respectively.

With a few exceptions, we’ll be discontinuing the Free tier in favour of a 1-month free trial. Those wishing to continue using Mergin Maps without a paid subscription may host their own private instance using Mergin Maps CE (Community Edition) which we released as open source software in 2021.

When is this going to happen?

The changes will take effect at the beginning of May for new subscriptions. Existing subscribers on monthly payment plans will be migrated to the new plans at the beginning of June.

If you are an existing subscriber, you can lock in the current price for another year if you buy or renew a yearly subscription by the 4th of May, 2023

Free plan only available for academia and not-for-profit organisations

With the exception of academia and not-for-profit2 organisations, the Free tier will no longer be available. However, you’ll still be able to try Mergin Maps out in a 1-month free trial. Existing Free tier accounts will be transferred to the 1-month free trial in June. After your free trial has ended, you will need to select a subscription plan that best suits your needs or download Community Edition (CE) if you wish to host Mergin Maps on your own server.

If you use Mergin Maps for academia or as a not-for-profit organisation, please contact us to arrange continued  Free tier access to Mergin Maps.

Individual pricing is now more affordable

We are lowering the price of our Individual subscription tier from €39 per month to €14.90 per month (or €11.90 a month if paying annually, a 20% saving). We feel the new price along with the other changes to this tier will provide good value for those who work alone.

There are some important changes to the allowed number of projects and users under the new tiers. Individual tier subscribers will have a limit of one user, 2 projects while Professional tier subscribers can have up to 6 users & unlimited projects. Professional tier subscribers will also be able to store up to 40GB of project history which will allow you to revert back to a previous version of a saved project.

The Team tier is best for larger organisations and allows for unlimited projects - as well as up to 200GB of project history storage. This tier also includes the ability to show a web map of your projects and access to the Mergin Maps API.

Remember you can save up to 25% by paying yearly instead of monthly. If you have any questions about the upcoming pricing changes, feel free to ask us at sales@merginmaps.com.

Last but not least, we want to thank you for being with us as a valued user as we enact these changes which will ultimately make our app better, and help us to continuously improve the platform. Happy field surveying!
